A box spring (sometimes referred to as a bed foundation or mattress base) is a supportive base that lies between your bed frame and your mattress. It is filled with a wooden or metal frame, and may have real coil springs with hard slats or a plain surface, all covered with fabric.

What Type of Box Spring Do You Need?

Bunkie Board: A thin (1-2 inch) solid panel used in bunk beds, daybeds, or platform frames. Stiffens without increasing height.

Metal Platform Base: A contemporary alternative to the traditional box spring. Built with a steel grid for maximum weight support and durability. Works great with memory foam and hybrid mattresses.

Twin & Twin XL Box Springs

Full Size Box Spring

High Profile vs. Low Profile Box Springs: Which Is Right for You?

This is also one of the most frequently asked questions, and the answer to this question is always determined by your frame, the type of mattress you have, and your own desire for the height of the bed.

Choose a High Profile (8–9") Box Spring if:

FAQ

Do I need a box spring with my mattress? 

It depends on your bed frame. Classic metal frames and headboard/footboard sets virtually all need a box spring or foundation. Platform beds do not usually. If you're confused, refer to your mattress warranty; it will tell you what kind of base you need.

Is it possible to use a box spring with a memory foam mattress?

Yes, but we suggest a low-profile box spring or a solid-surface foundation rather than a conventional coil box spring. Mattresses made of memory foam should be hard and even, not a springy surface that will wear unevenly.

What's the difference between a box spring and a foundation? 

The two terms are used interchangeably; however, technically, a box spring has actual coil springs, whereas a foundation has a rigid frame made of wood or metal. The type of modern box springs currently being sold in the market is usually a foundation with solid or slatted walls with no spring coils that move.

Is a split box spring worth it?

How long does a box spring last?
