Box Springs
A good night's sleep starts from the ground up, literally. In addition to raising your bed, a suitable box spring supports your mattress, prolongs its life, and improves the quality of each night’s sleep. From twin to California king, Eve Furniture offers a large selection of box springs and bed foundations that are designed to complement your mattress and bedroom design.
You can find it all here, be it a king-size box spring, a full-size box spring to use in a guest room or an entire king-size mattress and box spring set. We stock good brands at affordable prices, including Ashley, Coaster, Kingdom, Happy Homes, Homelegance, and Furniture of America.
What Is a Box Spring and Why Does It Matter?
A box spring (sometimes referred to as a bed foundation or mattress base) is a supportive base that lies between your bed frame and your mattress. It is filled with a wooden or metal frame, and may have real coil springs with hard slats or a plain surface, all covered with fabric.
This is why it is more important than most people would believe:
Mattress Longevity: An appropriate spring mattress box will absorb the stress at night and evenly spread your body weight so that your mattress does not sink.
Bed Height: Box springs raise the height of your bed enough to make it comfortable and reachable, especially to the elderly or anyone with mobility problems.
Airflow & Temperature: The air is able to pass through the space between your mattress and the box spring, enabling the air to circulate and cool you as you sleep at night.
Shock Absorption: Each time you sit, roll or move in bed, a box spring absorbs the impact and this spares your mattress and your frame.
Warranty Compliance: In most cases, a mattress warranty requires a compatible foundation. Attached to the improper base is the nullification of your coverage.
What Type of Box Spring Do You Need?
Box springs are not equal. The general categories included in our collection are as follows:
Standard Box Spring (High Profile): This is normally 8-9 inches high. Best suited to bed frames and innerspring mattresses. Gives you that old-time high-end bed feel, simple to climb in and out of.
Low-Profile Box Spring: Usually 4–5 inches tall. An excellent match with current platform frames, memory bedding, or anyone wanting a bed that is lower and sleeker. Same solid support, only thinner.
Split Box Spring: This is a spring that is half in size and is attached to make a full size foundation. It comes in handy when you need to negotiate narrow corridors, stairs, or door frames. Queen, king, and California king sizes are available.
Bunkie Board: A thin (1-2 inch) solid panel used in bunk beds, daybeds, or platform frames. Stiffens without increasing height.
Metal Platform Base: A contemporary alternative to the traditional box spring. Built with a steel grid for maximum weight support and durability. Works great with memory foam and hybrid mattresses.
Shop Box Springs by Size
Twin & Twin XL Box Springs
Perfect in the bedrooms of kids, dormitories, bunk beds, and guest rooms. A twin box spring is one of the most valuable items that you can make part of a small bedroom. Combine it with a twin mattress to have a complete and comfortable sleep system, but without taking up much floor space.
Our Twin XL models will provide an additional few inches in length, which is perfect in college dormitories or studio apartments.
Full Size Box Spring
A full-size box spring is significantly larger than a twin without the space of a queen, thus becoming a good choice in the bedrooms of teens, of solitary adult sleepers, or in smaller master bedrooms. It is also among the cheapest options for updating an old or ill-fitting sleeping system. It should be paired with a full mattress to keep the room uncluttered and have a comfortable, well-supported bed.
Queen Box Spring
Queen is the highest-selling size of mattress, and there is a good reason. It gives couples room to breathe while still fitting comfortably in most bedrooms. Queen box springs are available in 9-inch high up to low-profile 5-inch, and we have split queen foundations that are easier to carry in and out of the room.
Box Springs for King Bed
If you've invested in a king mattress, you need a foundation that can handle it. Our box springs for a king bed are designed for optimal load capacity and uniform weight distribution throughout the 76-inch width. Depending on your room's arrangement and transportation requirements, we provide both split king and one-piece foundations.
Purchasing the entire package? See our king-size mattress and boxspring set package, matching the appropriate foundation with a matching king-size mattress to have an easy-to-set-up, ready-to-sleep package.
California King Box Springs
The California king is thinner and longer than a typical king, and the foundation has to be constructed to fit. Our Cal King box springs will afford an entire length edge-to-edge support to ensure that your mattress remains stable, flat, and well-ventilated all year round.
High Profile vs. Low Profile Box Springs: Which Is Right for You?
This is also one of the most frequently asked questions, and the answer to this question is always determined by your frame, the type of mattress you have, and your own desire for the height of the bed.
Choose a High Profile (8–9") Box Spring if:
- You have a traditional metal or wood bed frame
- You prefer a higher bed that's easier to get in and out of
- You're pairing it with an innerspring or hybrid mattress
- You love the classic, timeless look of a tall bed
Choose a Low Profile (4–5") Box Spring if:
- You possess a platform bed or a low-clearance frame.
- Your mattress is a latex or memory foam mattress, which does not require additional height.
- You desire a contemporary, minimalist bedroom.
- You sleep with young children or animals that should have easier access.
Both are the same in terms of core support; it is just a matter of what suits you and your lifestyle.
Metal Box Springs vs. Traditional Box Springs
In conventional box springs, a wooden frame is utilized with coil springs or rigid slats within it. They are the industry standard that has worked well with the innerspring mattresses over the decades. Metal box springs, however, replace the wood with a grid structure made of steel, and this has several actual benefits:
- Higher weight capacity: Great for heavier mattresses or larger sleepers
- No creaking or noise: Metal doesn’t warp, squeak, or shift the way wood can over time
- Long-lasting durability: Steel holds its shape and support for years without degrading
- Modern aesthetic: Clean lines that complement contemporary bedroom furniture
We have all the styles at Eve Furniture, so you can select one depending on your mattress, your frame, and what you personally like.

FAQ
Do I need a box spring with my mattress?
It depends on your bed frame. Classic metal frames and headboard/footboard sets virtually all need a box spring or foundation. Platform beds do not usually. If you're confused, refer to your mattress warranty; it will tell you what kind of base you need.
Is it possible to use a box spring with a memory foam mattress?
Yes, but we suggest a low-profile box spring or a solid-surface foundation rather than a conventional coil box spring. Mattresses made of memory foam should be hard and even, not a springy surface that will wear unevenly.
What's the difference between a box spring and a foundation?
The two terms are used interchangeably; however, technically, a box spring has actual coil springs, whereas a foundation has a rigid frame made of wood or metal. The type of modern box springs currently being sold in the market is usually a foundation with solid or slatted walls with no spring coils that move.
Is a split box spring worth it?
Totally, when you live in an apartment, have narrow stairs, or need to move through narrow corridors. Split foundations separate into two manageable sections and re-fit in your bedroom, no headaches during assembly, no scratched walls.
How long does a box spring last?
The average life span of most quality box springs is 8-10 years. When yours is squeaking, sagging, or ceasing to hold your mattress flat, it needs to be changed, despite the fact that your mattress may be in fine shape.
